SBI PO.
The State Bank of India PO exam is the gold standard of banking recruitment. With India's largest bank as your employer, a fast-track promotion path, and a global footprint, SBI PO is the most prestigious banking career you can build straight out of graduation.
The Three Rounds.
Prelims
100 questions in 1 hour across English, Reasoning, and Quant. Each section has a 20-minute limit. Sectional cutoffs apply. This round is a qualifier — Prelims marks are NOT added to the final merit list.
Mains
The core selection round. 155 MCQs across 4 sections plus a 50-mark descriptive paper (Letter + Essay writing). Marks from this round carry 80% weight in the final merit list. SBI Mains is significantly harder than IBPS.
GD + Interview
A Group Discussion (GD) round followed by a Personal Interview. The GD tests your communication, leadership, and banking knowledge. Interview carries 20% weight. SBI interviewers test you on economics, current affairs, and banking policy.
Mains Exam Pattern.
The Mains is where SBI PO truly separates itself from IBPS. The descriptive section tests practical writing skills — a unique challenge.
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning & Computer Aptitude | 45 | 60 |
| Data Analysis & Interpretation | 35 | 60 |
| General/Economy/Banking Awareness | 40 | 40 |
| English Language | 35 | 40 |
| Descriptive (Letter + Essay) | 2 Essays | 50 |
–0.25 for every wrong MCQ answer. Descriptive paper is evaluated by SBI directly — quality of writing matters.
